The SOLIDWORKS Student Access Initiative offers a range of solutions to SOLIDWORKS Education Edition customers, providing easy options to get SOLIDWORKS into student’s hands.

SOLIDWORKS Student Premium (SEK)
Home Access for Large Accounts

SOLIDWORKS Student Premium (formerly SEK) allows students to work outside the classroom with a home use license.

Student Premium is available for large SOLIDWORKS Education Edition accounts and contains the same comprehensive products as the Education edition.

Registration Process

If you have not registered before then please ask your Solid Solutions account manager to fill out the application form.

After approval, SOLIDWORKS send a new serial number for us to pass onto you, this serial key should then be given to the students. Students can download from the community download page, use this key for installation, and then activate the software to gain full functionality.

Without activation they only get a 30 day trial. Activations are capped at the number of licenses you have on campus.

If you have applied for an SEK serial key in the past, Solid Solutions can provide a reminder of the key you do not need to reapply.

SOLIDWORKS Student Standard (SDK)
Home Access for Medium Sized Accounts

SOLIDWORKS Student Standard (formerly SDK) is included with the SOLIDWORKS Education Edition for medium sized accounts.

Student Standard provides students with a home copy of SOLIDWORKS Standard allowing them to continue studying outside the classroom.

Personal Access for Students

The SOLIDWORKS Student Edition is not included with the SOLIDWORKS Education Edition.

Instead it can be purchased by high school and degree-seeking students or full-time faculty members using the software for personal learning or academic purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions
If my school doesn't have SOLIDWORKS can I still get a home copy for personal use?

If you are a high school or degree-seeking student you can purchase a copy of SOLIDWORKS Student Edition at a huge discount compared to the commercial version.

However, if your school or university already has SOLIDWORKS they may be able to provide you with a free home use copy of Student Standard or Student Premium so we recommend you check before making any purchases.

What support is available for students?

Students are not entitled to use support and are encouraged ask their teachers or check online resources instead. Useful online resources include such as the SOLIDWORKS FAQs, student support and the SOLIDWORKS forums.

My computer at home is a Mac, can I install SOLIDWORKS to it?

It isn't recommended, or officially supported, to install SOLIDWORKS on a Mac but it is possible if you use BootCamp or Parallels. For more information please read this blog, but bear in mind performance will almost always be better on a Windows based machine.

Can SOLIDWORKS be installed or upgraded on a 32bit computer?

No. Unfortunately, SOLIDWORKS is no longer supported on 32bit computers. The last supported release of SOLIDWORKS on 32bit computers was SOLIDWORKS 2014 which is no longer available for download as an educational version.
