About Sunderland University
Sunderland University is an innovative centre of education with high standards of teaching, research and support that sits at the heart of one of the UK's most up and coming cities. They have strong links with industry and business, and work closely with some of the world's leading companies.
Challenge
The University took part in the ‘Formula Student’ programme which challenged European university students to design, build, develop, market and compete as a team with a small single-seater racing car. The team of students from Sunderland University (SU Racing) used SolidWorks to create their design.
Solution
The team prototyped their vehicle in SolidWorks, utilising the power of SolidWorks Weldment functionality, they also created 3D CAD models directly from Cloud point data using the “Scan to 3D” feature within SolidWorks. Students are also being encouraged to become SolidWorks certified which will provide them with the professional qualifications needed to widen their job opportunities and allow them to impart valuable knowledge to businesses when they enter into industry.
