Copy Surface

Copying a surface can be very useful when you want to build in context relationships between parts. Particularly when you are dealing with difficult imported geometry, such as STEP or IGES files with thousands of surfaces. But how do we do it if there is no "Copy Surface Command?

Copying a surface can be very useful when you want to build in context relationships between parts. Particularly when you are dealing with difficult imported geometry, such as STEP or IGES files with thousands of surfaces.

But how do we do it if there is no "Copy Surface Command?

The solution to this problem lies in the "Offset Surface Command". When opened and a surface is selected, it defaults to a 10mm offset, as shown below.

 

However look what happens when we set the offset to 0mm. The title block has changed to read "Copy Surface" and we have successfully duplicated our selected surfaces.
