We are always looking for ways to speed up our manufacturing processes. Fortunately, we can take advantage of SolidCAM templates to reduce repetitive tasks and boost productivity.
SolidCAM templates come in two main variations: an operation template and a process template.
These are both great ways for you to rapidly create complex machining strategies that you use frequently.
WHY SHOULD I USE SOLIDCAM TEMPLATES?
Using templates not only allow you to apply your machining intent quickly onto a part, they also make sure you are doing this consistently as well.
Add to this the ability to share templates between users, this means you can make certain that everyone in the production team is making parts in the same way.
HOW DO I CREATE A TEMPLATE IN SOLIDCAM?
Creating a template in SolidCAM is a straightforward process. Let’s guide you through creating each type.
For an Operation Template:
- Open an existing toolpath or create a new toolpath with the settings you want to use.
- Click the save template icon in the top of the toolpath manager.
- Assign a name and whether you want to keep the tooling and geometry filters.
For a Process Template:
- Open or create a part with multiple toolpaths (for example, a roughing and a finishing operation).
- Select all the toolpaths you want to assign to your process.
- Right click in the CAM Manager and select Create Template
- Assign a name and whether you want to keep the tooling and geometry filters.
HOW DO I USE A TEMPLATE IN SOLIDCAM?
Once we have templates, the next thing is we need to do is use them. To use a template there are multiple ways to do this.
Drag and Drop
- Open the SolidCAM Drag and Drop Templates task pane tab.
- Ensure Operation and Process templates are toggled visible.
- Select an Operation Template or Process Template and drag and drop it onto a face in the cad model or into the CAM Manager to create toolpath(s) you desire.
Assign Templates - Create a new toolpath or open the toolpath you wish to make follow a template.
- Click Load Template in the toolpath manager.
- Select the toolpath template you want to use and click OK.
TOP TIP - Distil the common process you frequently use and start adding them to your own templates. Take the Next Steps...
